Description
Gender identity based discrimination has resulted in transgender people being marginalised, but they are currently facing increased prejudice and hatred, due in large part to misinformation in the media. Trans people are likely to face discrimination in the workplace and are much more likely to experience mental health difficulties than their cisgender colleagues.
We invite you to change the narrative around gender identity and step into your allyship to create a workplace culture where we all feel comfortable to bring the intersections of our identities to work.
This e-learning module is designed to help you to understand transgender identities, the prejudice that transgender people face and equip you with the tools to become a better trans ally.
Learning Objectives
We hope at the end of this lesson you will:
- Enhance your understanding of the lived experience of being transgender
- Learn about the challenges that transgender people face in the community and in the workplace
- Ensure you have a full understanding of the relevant language around gender identity
- Understand the importance of positive representation in the media and role models in the workplace
- Learn practical ways in which you can be an active ally for the transgender community
- Consider how to support a colleague who is transitioning
A workplace where transgender people are included is a workplace where everyone is included.
