Masculinity in the Workplace 2023 Virtual Edition
November 21st: 1.45pm - 6pm
What are you doing in your organisation to engage men in inclusion and diversity?
This year we are holding our 6th Masculinity in the Workplace event to mark International Men's Day. This is a pivotal event in the EDI calendar to engage men and, looking at the stats above, the need for that seems to be greater than ever.
The theme for this year is 'The Power of Identity'. We have chosen this theme because it will allow us to explore some current and contemporary issues around men and masculinity. We can look at intersectionality, we can look at how identity is formed, we can look at the thorny issue of privilege and we can look at why some men are being drawn to unhealthy ideals of masculinity, such as Andrew Tate.
We're really excited to announce our key speakers, drum roll....
Eshaan Akbar - Experiences of Identity
After seeing Eshaan perform his critically-acclaimed tour show in Hemel Hempstead, we are excited to bring his humour to you! He challenged a number of our own pre-conceived notions around identity and representation, and his own journey with the intersection of his masculinity and the rest of his identity, is one we're sure will be of great interest. We love his lightness of touch around topics that are seemingly very "hot-button". Eshaan is sure to get you thinking - and laughing - with his unique brand of observation.
Susie Orbach - Forming Identity
Susie is a psychotherapist and is going to talk, via a fireside chat with Roxanne, about how identity is formed. This will be super interesting for the parents in the room but, even if you're not a parent, this conversation is bound to make you feel differently about the assumptions you have made around your identity. Susie will also be touching on how the current system is leading some men astray.
Matt Lindley - Unmasking Identity and Digging into Vulnerability
Our final speaker is Matt Lindley, who is going to speak about his experiences of masking in the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces do a really good job of leaning into and unpicking scenarios when mistakes happen - something that isn't currently reflected in the world of inclusion, where we are often shamed or cancelled. So, what can we learn from the black box mentality of aviation and then bring that into the world of diversity, equity and inclusion?
Our panel this year is on Engaging Men with Inclusion and Diversity
Our panellists will discuss how they have been successful in engaging men with inclusion and diversity and how this is shifting the culture in their businesses. Confirmed panellists are:
- Elaine Grell, Chief People Officer, Ogilvy
- Mike Vallis, Managing Director RTPs, Merlin Entertainments
- Tafadzwa Muchenje, Marketing Exec, Channel 4 & Co-chair, The Shed
Finally will be showcasing our annual Masculinity in the Workplace research.
The hybrid event is at Conway Hall with tickets available in-person for partners and for everybody else via Zoom - virtual tickets are available here with 50% off, especially for you lovely people!
We couldn't do this without our partners so thank you to all of them. If you're interested in becoming a partner, there's still time, please get in touch.
Can't wait to see you all there!
