"A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential. It’s less about control and more about connection." Brené Brown

When you take a coaching approach as a leader, you shift from a directive style to one that emphasises empowerment, active listening, empathy and continuous growth.  In our new world of AI, a human-centred approach will set you apart as a leader. A shift in leadership style from control to collaboration can contribute to cultures that have inclusion at their centre and happier, healthier and more productive teams.

Coaching skills can help to:

  1. Empower your team

A coaching approach means believing in your team. Rather than delegating or instructing tasks, a coaching approach means asking powerful questions so that they find the solutions on their own. Over time this increases confidence and accountability.

  1. Enhance listening skills

How often, when you are truly busy, are you sat there waiting for people to finish talking so you can say what you desperately want to say?! As a coach, you will learn active listening which helps to create a trusting space where colleagyes are more likely to share their ideas, challenges and vulnerability.

  1. Adopt a growth mindset

By adopting a growth mindset, you encourage your team to see challenges as opportuniies for learning rather than obstacles. In turn, this will nurture creativity and a willingness to embrace change and take calculated risks in the service of innovation and growth.

  1. Build psychological safety

We all know how important this is to teams, and coaching builds this trust by showing that you value your teams input. Failure becomes less scary and, again, calculated risks are possible. Furthermore the empathy skills and self management skills that you learn, will enhance the willingness of your team to be vulnerable.

  1. Encourage ownership of development and self reflection

Accountability shifts from a top down mandate to a mutually agreed framework for success. By encouraging self reflection, powerful coaching questions help your team to identify their strengths and areas for improvement

We are partnering with Awaken Coach Institute to bring you a 30-hour ICF accredited in-person coaching programme with an optional add-on 5 months mentor coaching which will give you everything you need to go on to complete your ACC level ICF accreditation.

The course will be facilitated by Roxanne Hobbs and Christi Byerly.
