Let me take you on a Neurodiverse journey, from DiverseMinds 2.0 to the inaugural Neurodiversity awards (via Autism Acceptance Day). DiverseMinds 2.0"One of the most honest and authentic events I have ever attended""The best conference I have ever been to""I am so inspired and have so many ideas of what to do next - things that have been discussed today are applicable for everyone. Well done"We were blown away by the response to DiverseMinds 2.0 : From insight to action. We had a packed house at Havas KX and found ourselves talking, laughing and crying together as we heightened our understanding of what it is to be ND, and how to support ND's further in the workplace. Rather than take it from me, here are a few of the comment pieces arising from the event:- Campaign Hall and Partners Shirley Nelson Carly Osman Holme Anonymous perspective And for those of you who couldn't make it, here is some of the content for you:Agonie Autie's talk is here on our YouTube page, we'll be uploading more of the content soon.Judy Singer's transcript for download here. |
Autism acceptance dayTuesday last week was world autism day, but most autistics prefer to call it autistic acceptance day. The challenge is for neurotypicals to understand what it is like to be autistic, and to accept autistic people when they show up as themselves. For too long, the interventions have been about getting those that are autistic to show up differently. The onus is shifting to one in which neurotypicals can understand and accept. What can you do to increase your understanding and thus further your acceptance? We particularly liked:HSBC's work in houseCarrie Grant's video My son's school held an Autism assembly for the first time, celebrating difference and providing the children the opportunity to ask questions of an autistic adult, Ciara. It is fair to say Ciara found the experience a bit unsettling because it is so different from her own experiences at primary school and we can only hope we are now raising a generation of children who see the value of difference and have no stigma associated with neurodiversity. |
What's next - the inaugural Neurodiversity AwardsWe are super proud to be a sponsor of the UK's inaugural neurodiversity awards, organised by Genius Within. The talents of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Tourettes Syndrome and more are coming in to the public awareness. It is time to celebrate and reward those whose efforts have contributed to building awareness, breaking down barriers and creating systemic inclusion.Awards include:Neurodiverse Achiever of the yearStereotype buster of the yearInclusion Project of the year.
