This e-learning module looks at mental wellbeing in the workplace. How can we take care of our mental wellbeing and others to contribute to a truly inclusive workplace?

Learning objectives:

At the end of this module you will:

  • Understand what mental health is and how to look after it
  • Learn how mental health problems show up in the workplace
  • Be able to recognise signs and symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression in the workplace
  • Consider the factors that affect our mental health (both positively and negatively)
  • Be more confident at having a conversation about mental health
  • Take away some top tips for improving mental wellbeing in the workplace, tackling stigma and supporting others.

 

Why is this important?

Mental health is everybody's business. And impacts all businesses. We all sometimes feel scared, fed-up or angry. Experiencing a range of emotions is part of the human condition. For most of us, 'negative' feelings can pass pretty quickly. And sometimes they don't.

Sometimes they might turn in to a more serious problem. With 1 in 6 people in the UK experiencing a mental health difficulty in any given week, and 1 in 5 people in the USA in the past year having a mental illness, there is a strong likelihood that someone around you is struggling right now.

Work-related stress and mental ill health is now the leading cause of sickness absence. 70 million work days are lost due to mental health problems each year in the UK alone. Addressing wellbeing in the workplace can increase productivity by as much as 12%.
